Neenah Enterprises foundries produce industrial parts and components in a variety of materials to meet most any design specs. Below is a brief rundown of the materials we work in and what differentiates them from one another.
Gray iron is the most commonly used cast iron in the world today. Gray iron has small amounts of carbon and silicon present in the metal, with the remainder being iron. Gray iron’s compressive strength is comparable to low and medium carbon steel.
Class 30, class 35 and class 40.
Ductile iron adds small amounts of magnesium to the alloy to provide add strength. Ductile iron types, 60-40-18, 65-45-12, 80-55-06, 90-60-03, 100-70-03.
Austempered ductile iron (ADI) is ductile cast iron, heat-treated using a tightly controlled process that produces a unique microstructure. ADI is available in six ASTM standard grades, covering a wide range of strength and hardness characteristics.
